Blanca Rosa Photovoltaic Solar Park, in Majibacoa, Las Tunas.

The municipality of Majibacoa is about to inaugurate its first photovoltaic solar park (PSF, in Spanish), a modern facility to inject clean, crucial energy into the national power grid.

Majibacoa, Las Tunas.– The Blanca Rosa PSF, with a capacity of 5 megawatts (MW), is part of the significant 120 MW donation from the People's Republic of China to Cuba. Engineer Jorge Luis Páez Rodríguez, the main specialist, told 26 that construction work began in March and is almost complete.

"In its first month of partial operation (October), the plant generated some 627 megawatt-hours (MWh) to the national power grid. Its daily contribution ranges between 3.5 and 4.6 MW, providing direct relief to the complex energy situation the country is experiencing. This is a significant contribution, especially considering the strategic nature of this renewable and non-polluting energy source."

Located between the communities of Blanca Rosa and La Ceiba, the park covers 6.6 hectares. It features a system of technological containers, including a reactive power compensator, which operates 24 hours a day to stabilize and optimize the quality of the energy injected into the national grid.

Páez Rodríguez affirms that the project has brought valuable socioeconomic development to the area. The plant employs 23 workers. The construction also mobilized a significant contingent of specialists.

Brigades from the Copextel Las Tunas Territorial Division, approximately 40 workers, carried out the cabling, panel, and table interconnection, equipment assembly, and specialized technical measurements necessary to bring the complex online.

"All of this is specialized work that Copextel is required to perform as one of the entities fully integrating into the renewable energy market," explained Delfín Ramos Leyva, Copextel's systems management specialist.

The Blanca Rosa Solar Photovoltaic Plant is a concrete example of the commitment to solar photovoltaic energy, which Ramos Leyva defined as "a type of renewable energy generation that transforms solar radiation into electrical energy, making it one of the most recommended and least environmentally damaging sources."

With its 5 MW already connected to the national power grid, this project not only illuminates the province's present with clean energy but also points the way toward a country’s sustainable, sovereign energy future.
