With several days of competition remaining in various sports, the province's high school and youth athletes have already collected their first medals in their respective events.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Karel Omar Rosa Lora led the way for Las Tunas with his bronze in the men's modern pentathlon. The girls' cycling team then took the title in the team sprint and a silver in the 500 meters. More medals came out of the Havana velodrome for our team: gold in the women's pursuit and bronze in the men's, as well as two silvers in the sprint events.

Thus, the cyclists from the Cuban Eastern Balcony finished in second place overall, thanks to the girls' victory and the boys' fourth place. They returned home with seven medals: two gold, three silver, and two bronze.

The junior women's hockey team remained true to its tradition in the sport by winning the bronze medal after defeating Sancti Spíritus 3-1. The men advanced to the final, but lost 2-1 to one of their historic rivals, Ciego de Ávila. In the triathlon, Las Tunas won a silver medal in the relays for the school category and a bronze medal in the junior event.

Mariam López Guisao achieved another positive result in the junior athletics competition, thanks to her titles in the 1500m flat and 3000m steeplechase, while Yunieski Richart Rodríguez took silver in the all-around events.

This year, our territory aims to surpass its eleventh place in 2024 in both categories. It is expected to win more medals and total no fewer than 312 points in the 61st National School Games, and surpass 290 points in the National Youth Olympics (ONJ).
