Provincial Pioneer Games concluden first stage in Las Tunas.

The first stage of the Las Tunas Provincial Pioneer Games, with the participation of some 257 athletes from the eight municipalities, has successfully concluded. The competition served as a qualifier for the pre-selection teams for next year's judo, baseball (Little League), and boxing national events.

Las Tunas, Cuba. – The Carlos Leyva Sports Initiation School (EIDE, in Spanish) hosted the judo competition. The provincial capital, Las Tunas, took the team title, "Amancio" won silver, and "Colombia" earned bronze, while "Jesús Menéndez" finished in fourth place.

The 11–12-year-old boxing competition featured an exciting final in the historic ring on Colón Street, reviving a competitive tradition in the capital city. Majibacoa was the surprise winner. Jobabo and "Colombia" finished second and third, respectively, followed by "Amancio."

The squads from "Jesús Menéndez" and Puerto Padre, although convened, did not attend the event. Manatí, meanwhile, has no boxers in this category.

In Little League baseball, the 15–16-year-old category, the technical committee is still working to finalize the results after a competition organized by zones and groups. Difficulties were evident in the athletes' technical and tactical skills, which training must focus on.

Archery, initially scheduled, could not be held because the athletes are sick with the arboviruses currently impacting the country's epidemiological situation.

With the competition concluded, the process of forming the provincial pre-selection teams for the three disciplines begins. The goal is to prepare young talents for the National Pioneer Games scheduled for April 2026.

The highest provincial sports authorities acknowledged the tremendous organizational effort and the athletes' commitment. The rivalry between municipalities like Las Tunas, “Amancio,” Jobabo, and “Colombia,” the usual protagonists, promises to intensify in the upcoming stages of a calendar that will extend into next year.
