Trump in NATO's leaders' summit in Ankara.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday in Ankara that he is ending the framework ceasefire agreement with Iran, stating that it is "over" because Iran "is garbage."

"For me, it is over. I don't want to negotiate with them, because they are garbage. They are sick people, led by sick, evil, violent people. If they had a nuclear weapon, they would use it," Trump told the press, alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, at the start of the second day of the Alliance's leaders' summit in Ankara.

"As far as I'm concerned, negotiating with them is just a waste of time. They lie. We had an agreement —no nuclear weapons. They talk to the press and say we never discussed this. What's wrong with them? They are crazy," the president said.

"In my opinion, this is over. I think they are wasting their time. They are a bunch of liars," Trump concluded.

He also accused the Iranian regime of "harming its people," claiming that "so far they have killed 54,000 people who were protesting."

"When you ask why they haven't taken power, it's because they are dead. They have been killed. No one will take power. They don't have rifles, and the other side has machine guns and kills them," he said, referring to protests from last January.

According to Trump, the U.S. had attacked "very hard" the previous night after granting a period of calm for the funeral of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who died in the initial attacks of the war that began on February 28.

"We told them to hold the funeral, and instead they started launching rockets at vessels yesterday. So we hit them hard last night, very hard. They play dirty, they go after everyone —probably even I was on their hit list," the president speculated.

"They are bad people. They have killed thousands and thousands of our soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent people," Trump said, without clarifying which conflict he was attributing the high number of U.S. casualties to Iran, as in the war that began this year, only 16 U.S. soldiers have been confirmed killed in combat.

"However, I will let our wonderful negotiators continue talking, if they want, but I don't see it. I don't like those people," he concluded.

Trump's statements come after the most recent exchanges of hostilities between Iran and the United States. U.S. forces attacked Iran last night in response to Iranian aggressions against three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, in turn, bombarded U.S. bases in several Persian Gulf countries in retaliation.

Before those attacks, the U.S. had revoked authorization for the sale of Iranian oil on international markets, a measure taken in response to aggressions against vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. (CubaSí)
