A rebound of the COVID-19 in this eastern province worries citizens and local health authorities, which reinforce the epidemiological surveillance and insist on extreme measures to contain the disease.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- An information on local television reported that in the last 15 days, the territory has registered 87 positive cases for the new coronavirus, of which 30 are indigenous and 57 are imported; a figure that raised the incidence rate to 5.6 per 100,000 inhabitants. The municipalities of Las Tunas, Puerto Padre and “Jesús Menéndez” report the highest incidence.
Currently, a total of 49 patients confirmed with the disease receive medical care in hospitals in the neighboring province of Holguín. Another nine asymptomatic patients are being assisted in Las Tunas by multidisciplinary teams, which carry out their follow-up according to the treatment protocols.
Three isolation centers are set up for the surveillance of suspects, travelers and contacts of confirmed cases who do not meet the conditions to remain under surveillance in their residences.
Dr. Gregory Pérez Héctor, deputy director of Health, said that this situation has been generated by the indiscipline of travelers and their families who fail to comply with the established provisions.
As a sector strategy, a warning system was set up for the Health areas so that they know in advance the possible date of arrival of travelers to the community. Based on this information, the medical office staff can visit the families and assess whether or not the conditions exist in the house for isolation, and adopt the necessary conduct.
The current scenario is the most complicated in this province since the first positive case of COVID-19 was reported in March 2020. The health authorities call not to neglect the use of the facemask, to maintain physical distance and constantly sanitize the hands, in addition to attending immediately before any symptoms of the disease.
