World Breastfeeding Week begins today and runs through August 7; Cuba is adding to its program of activities to promote this healthy practice for the development and well-being of children.

Havana, Cuba.- At a press conference held in Havana, the Ministry of Health (MINSAP) of Cuba and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced joint initiatives aimed at strengthening this connection between mothers and their babies, their families, and other mothers.

Invest in breastfeeding, invest in the future.

Both organizations highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and complementary breastfeeding until a child is two years old.

Sunny Guidotti, UNICEF deputy representative in Cuba, emphasized that they are working hand in hand with the MINSAP to promote this practice, which provides protection and development for both babies and mothers, reduces the risk of chronic diseases, and fosters a bond between the two.
