Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) and of the Council of State, today stressed the importance of love, dedication, and selflessness in the care of patients and their families during a visit to the Faustino Pérez Provincial Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital.
Accompanied by Mario Sabines Lorenzo, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Matanzas province, and Marieta Poey Zamora, Governor of the territory, the Cuban parliamentary leader spoke with patients, caregivers, and medical staff in the Palliative Care ward.
According to a local press report, the Palliative Care ward at Faustino Pérez has eight beds and has attended to 116 patients since its inauguration in March of this year. This Thursday, Lazo Hernández emphasized that, amid the country’s complex economic situation, intense efforts are being made to ensure medical care for the people.
The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party also highlighted the humanistic work of the medical staff in a ward that demands great dedication and love, not only toward patients but also toward caregivers.
During his visit to the important health center, the President of Parliament observed the facilities of the Neurosurgery ward and the medical residence. Dr. Taimy Martínez Naranjo, General Director of the hospital, explained that investment efforts focused on improvements will continue with the Hemodialysis ward.
The need to fully staff the nursing team stood out as one of the institution’s current challenges. As an alternative, the hiring of third- and fifth-year medical students to perform related functions has been adopted.
Also, this Thursday, at the Victoria de Girón Stadium, Lazo Hernández inquired about the physical condition of the Matanzas baseball players, who are preparing to win the two games that would guarantee them direct qualification for the Cuban baseball Elite League.
The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant and the Supertanker Base, in the local industrial zone, were also sites visited by Lazo Hernández today in Matanzas. (CubaSí)
