Members of the European Parliament expressed their rejection of the United States' hostilities against Cuba, condemning the blockade and military threats.
The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, rejected this Sunday the maximum pressure strategy executed by the United States and expressed his gratitude for the backing of European lawmakers who classified the energy siege as an unjustifiable collective punishment.
In a publication on the social network X, the head of state affirmed that “so many voices cannot be wrong” and underlined that Cuba “will never be a threat.”
Díaz-Canel highlighted international solidarity and the firm denunciation against the collective punishment to which the Cuban people are subjected, a situation that, in his view, “already qualifies as genocide.”
The head of state pointed out that the “maximum pressure” design proclaimed by certain sectors within the United States forms part of a strategy to justify a false narrative of collapse and, with it, a military intervention.
“Cuba is not alone,” the president emphasized in his message on the digital platform. Recently, European lawmakers described the American measures and the energy siege as a cruel, illegal policy and a collective punishment that causes severe damage to the daily lives of Cubans.
Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Maria Zacharia questioned the coherence of speaking in favor of human rights while maintaining these types of embargoes.
Representatives such as Rudi Kennes, Pernando Barrena, and Özlem Demirel denounced the threats of military intervention and the policies implemented by the Trump administration. They affirmed that Cuba does not constitute a threat to the national security of the United States and demanded an end to the blockade. (CubaSí)
