The National Electroenergetic System is advancing in a gradual recovery process following the total blackout that occurred on Monday.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today described the work of the island's electrical workers as heroic amid the asphyxiation policies applied by the U.S. administration against the Caribbean nation.

On his official X profile, the Cuban president noted that while the United States tries to induce a social outbreak through asphyxiation by blocking Cuba's access to fuel, the Electric Union mobilizes to reverse the collapse of the National Electroenergetic System.

"It is heroic what electrical workers do in the midst of a genocidal energy blockade," the Cuban head of state wrote.

The National Electroenergetic System is advancing in a gradual recovery process following the total blackout that occurred on Monday afternoon, with microsystems operating in several provinces and vital services being restored.

According to Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de la O Levy on X, the protocols for system recovery are active.

"Microsystems are already functioning throughout Cuba, and vital services continue to be protected amid this complex situation aggravated by the energy siege we face," the minister wrote.

The new system blackout occurs in a context of increasing U.S. economic pressure on Cuba to prevent oil from reaching the island, after President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January threatening tariffs on countries that export or facilitate fuel supplies.

Since late 2024, the National Electroenergetic System has suffered several total blackouts amid the multi-billion-dollar effects of the blockade policy maintained by the northern administration against the island for over six decades. (CubaSí)
