From the revision of the payment systems to the contact with the factors of the most affected communities currently occupy the authorities of Communal Services, an entity that is projected by the achievement of the stability of the collection of solid waste, a matter that in the provincial capital is far from being carried out with the required regularity.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Grisel Alonso Guerrero, director of Communal Services in the province, assured 26 that given the current situation of rising prices and shortage of fuel, it is essential for the entity to incorporate a full staff of cart drivers who are responsible for the sanitation of the areas to contribute to communal hygiene.
The director emphasized that currently, of the 250 wagoners required, only 61 are working; this reduction in the workforce is directly affecting collective hygiene.
Our priority is to increase the number of carters," said Grisel. In this month itself, we are going to meet with the Administration Council to re-evaluate the payment system to increase the wages of these workers, as far as possible."
He emphasized that the municipalities of Colombia and Amancio have already taken the first steps in this respect with good results. "The strategy is to establish payment for the collection of cubic meters of solid waste according to the financial availability of each territory; the amounts do not have to be equal throughout the province."
Alonso Guerrero acknowledged that -in recent months- the provision of services has not been achieved with stability, but called attention to the responsibility of citizens when it comes to creating dumps in areas as susceptible as school sports areas and downtown areas that considerably disfigure the city.
"We are engaged in looking for more manpower and contributing to the better development of the neighborhoods, but community hygiene is a matter for all of us. We cannot allow dumping in inappropriate places. Fighting against landfills is a guarantee to ensure health."
