The Training and Development base business unit (UEB in Spanish) facilities house a dynamic training center for the Las Tunas Electric Company. This space, dedicated to the comprehensive training of all its personnel, from operational workers to key positions and specialists, has become the cornerstone of training in the sector in this eastern region.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Damiana Sandra González Lozano, the director of this entity, explains that they receive interested personnel from all municipalities. In a systematic manner and responding to the specific needs of each territory, several training courses are offered, such as specialized electrical linemen, general electrical linemen, and all the training for photovoltaic solar park operators.
"The training offer is broad and specialized. We also train meter readers, electrical inspectors, and dispatchers. All the courses are important because they are all key positions for the functioning of our organization," says González Lozano.
Carlos Iván Leyva Pérez is an electrician in the municipality of Manatí and is currently taking a training course at the UEB. "We came here to take the advanced course to improve our work, not only as a personal promotion, but also to increase the technical quality available. I used to be a C-level lineman, and when I finish the course, I will be a specialized lineman."
The results are tangible, and by 2025, the graduate plan was exceeded, reflecting the momentum and demand for professionalization within the sector. Behind these achievements is a solid network of academic collaboration.
The vocational training process is extensive, explains the management. “There are agreements with the main universities in the eastern region (Holguín, Las Tunas, Santiago de Cuba, and Moa). We prioritize the Electrical Engineering degree program. We have a framework agreement with the University of Camagüey that is already bearing fruit, with the approval of seven graduates of that specialty to start work in July.”
The UBB Training and Development Center is more than just a course center. It is a strategic engine that ensures the sustainability and modernization of the electrical system, training the men and women who maintain and develop the province's energy infrastructure.
