“For the Healthcare, it is a source of great pride to open the May Day parade, and we will march with the energy and commitment of the historic moment we are going through,” declared Dr. Viviana Gutiérrez Rodríguez, director-general of the provincial organization.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– Dr. Gutiérrez described the event as an opportunity to counter the media war against the sector. “Major General Vicente García González Plaza will be the best setting to demonstrate that the vast majority of workers support the Revolution and are willing to continue overcoming current challenges and saving lives.”
She said that despite the limitations and shortages of supplies and resources, they are approaching the momentous with favorable indicators: an infant mortality rate of five per thousand live births and a neonatal survival rate of over 98 percent.
She emphasized their commitment to improving the quality of services and the work carried out at all hospitals, in Primary Health Care, and surgical activity, which exceeded 50 percent of what was planned.
Gutiérrez Rodríguez said marching first is a challenge they are taking on responsibly and reaffirmed they intend to maintain the top position achieved last year in the emulation organized by the Cuban Central Workers' Union, which selects and honors the best blocs by category. This system promotes and encourages the color, beauty, and initiatives of the participating unions.
Now, "the administration and the union are exchanging ideas about how we will organize the march, the structure, the organization of the institutions, and motivating collective thinking to bring some 15,000 workers and their families to the historic site, and another 5,000 in the other municipalities."
Karianna Pérez Rodríguez, secretary-general of the Provincial Committee of the Health Workers' Union in the province, supports these criteria. Both commented that during these days, members have performed volunteer work supporting food production, primarily in organic farms. They have also shifted their workloads at their own institutions, such as the Manatí and Jobabo nursing homes, dedicated to cleaning the centers and gardens. Similar actions are being carried out in provincial and municipal units.
As part of the pre-celebration program, five centers have already been declared May Day Ready, and the union and administration continue to promote activities related to this movement at the grassroots level.
“We continue working together to fulfill the organization's numerical tasks, such as membership dues and the Contribution to the Homeland, among other union activities,” they stated.
