The province of Las Tunas continues on an increasingly secure path to meet its needs through clean energy generation.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– The Subestación 220 kV (21 MW) photovoltaic solar park, currently in its final phase and ready to contribute to the National Electric System (SEN), is being built near this city, as is the “Nueva Línea” solar park, inaugurated in June in Delicias, municipality of Puerto Padre.
The most recent addition, already connected to the SEN, was the Blanca Rosa solar park in Majibacoa, with a capacity to generate 5 MW.
With these new installations, plus the four that have been operating for several years and the addition of the 220 kV substation by the end of December or next January, Las Tunas could generate around 50 percent of its current energy consumption from clean sources. This would represent a significant contribution to the environment and to saving fossil fuels.
Two photovoltaic solar parks of 21 and 5 MW, respectively, are also under construction in the municipality of “Amancio,” as is the La Herradura Uno wind farm on the coast of the northern municipality of “Jesús Menéndez,” which has been under construction for some time and is awaiting the installation of its 22 wind turbines.
Unlike solar installations, eolic parks can generate power 24 hours a day, and their efficiency depends on wind speed, a characteristic of this northern coast, according to tests carried out by specialists before undertaking the investment. (ACN)
