The labor movement in Las Tunas is turning the furrows into trenches in its efforts to contribute to the goal of achieving national food sovereignty. Motivated by the imminent 67th anniversary of the Revolution triumph, the Cuban Workers' Federation (CTC) and its unions in the province continue to organize volunteer work, primarily in activities related to food production.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– Daniuris Ortiz Velázquez, a member of the CTC's Provincial Secretariat, confirms this, noting that over four thousand residents of Las Tunas came to work on Saturday and Sunday, contributing their sweat to the dreams of the nation cultivated in the province's fields.
"They did so in response to the call from the CTC to celebrate the arrival of January 1st, a date that marks a milestone in the history of the country and its people," the labor leader explains.
“The workers know that the nation’s future is also forged in the fields, and that everyone’s support is crucial for the tasks prioritized during this time of crisis. Producing more food, combating arboviruses, and, as far as possible, changing the image of our cities, communities, and workplaces…,” Ortiz Velázquez emphasized.
“These objectives are motivating and were central to the actions taken,” she noted, highlighting the integration of representatives from different unions into the march to consolidate these programs.”
“Rationality and objectivity are the basic principles of the mobilizations taking place in the days leading up to January 1st, when we commemorate the victory of the Rebel Army over the Batista dictatorship.”
“Mobilizations were convened in all eight municipalities, and participants worked in urban gardens, where they helped clean garden beds in self-consumption areas of various entities, weeded plantain and vegetable crops, and hilled up cassava plantings to ensure their development,” he states.
They also participated in solid waste collection in cities and communities, as well as cleaning and beautifying workplaces to celebrate the new anniversary of the Revolution with a more attractive image, despite the limitations of these times, the union leader added.
