Five of the seven inverters at the 220 kV Substation Solar Photovoltaic Park (PSFV, in Spanish), with an installed capacity of 15 MW, have already been synchronized with the National Electric System (SEN) as part of a trial.
Las Tunas, Cuba – This achievement demonstrates the progress being made in the construction of this generating unit, which is being built in areas adjacent to the city of Las Tunas. It also testifies to the Cuban State's commitment to continuing the program to shift the country's energy matrix toward renewable and clean sources.
Omilton Rodríguez Rivas, Director of Investments at the Las Tunas Electric Company, acknowledges the work being done by investors and workers from different sectors who “form a great team and combine experience, effort, will, and commitment to completing the installation by the agreed-upon date,” he emphasizes.
Rodríguez Rivas confirms that they expect to complete the installation of the other two inverters that will complete the system this month, each with the potential to deliver three MW.
The executive emphasizes that the decision is to continue working with the same energy on the remaining construction phases to complete this important installation, which, once operational, will have the capacity to contribute 21.8 MW to the National Interconnected System (SEN).
The “220 kV Substation” occupies 32 hectares, until recently covered in marabou weed, and its completion requires the installation of 16,638 piles to support 1,638 platforms on which 42,588 solar panels will be placed.
Specialists from the Integrated Projects and Investment departments of the Provincial Electric Company are overseeing the assembly, which is being carried out by teams from the Construction and Assembly Company (Conalza Las Tunas), Cubiza, the National Institute of Applied Research (ENIA), Acinox Las Tunas, the Prefabricated Construction Materials and Integrated Automation Company (CEDAI), and the Copextel Las Tunas subsidiary.
A similar PSFV, the “Nueva Línea,” is located in the town of Delicias, in the municipality of Puerto Padre.
