Throughout this year, the cultural sector will hold several initiatives to commemorate the centennial of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution. One of the most recent was the inauguration of the "100 Years with Fidel" special exhibition, on display at the Fayad Jamís Gallery in the provincial capital.
Las Tunas, Cuba.– Under the auspices of the Provincial Directorate of Culture and the Las Tunas branch of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets (FCBC), a collective exhibition was organized featuring 14 two and three-dimensional works that honor the author of "History Will Absolve Me."
Among the pieces is a caricature sculpture (a blend of caricature and sculpture) gifted by Hugo Chávez to the Commander-in-Chief, which is normally housed in the "A Sun of the Moral World" room at the Major General Vicente García Revolution Plaza.
Masters of the visual arts, such as José Villa Soberón, Cosme Proenza, and Nelson Domínguez, recipient of the National Prize for Visual Arts, are involved in the exhibit. Likewise, established local artists join the tribute, including Luis García, Alexander Lecusay, and Rogelio Ricardo.
The "100 Years with Fidel" special exhibition opened on February 24, a date that marks the resumption of the Cuban War of Independence in 1895. In this context, singer-songwriter Jesús Ricardo Pérez Sicilia performed a song by Silvio Rodríguez, and radio host Tahily Berrey read an allegorical poem by Marta Pérez Leyva.
