The image of the areas where majestic parts of the Nueva Línea photovoltaic solar park, which adorns the outskirts of Delicias in the municipality of Puerto Padre, are already changing by the minute, and the electrical engineer Roberto Pérez Peña, chief specialist of the gigantic and promising work, proudly says: “We are working at an accelerated pace and we intend to conclude the assembly and begin to deliver the 21.8 megawatts on May 29."
“You will see the change from your first visit. In all the plots, there are table foundations laid by the CubAIza brigade, and of the 16,380 planned in the project of the seven plots of the park, only about 1,000 are missing”, he explains and invites us to enter a fascinating panorama of joint efforts that are bearing fruit.
He comments that, despite the intensity of the work, the “troop” keeps the spirit high, has gained in productivity and its energies compete with those of the Astro King, whose radiations are a symbol of hope, and its use is integrated to the nation's program aimed at changing the energy matrix towards renewable sources.
Pérez Peña describes how they organized their teamwork and scheduled the execution of work for the substantial investment project. This careful planning has enabled them to complete tasks by the established deadline. He also notes their motivation due to the ongoing support and oversight from the highest leadership of the Cuban Communist Party, the Government, and the provincial Electric Company.
PARK INSIDE...
The men and machines move at a dizzying pace, without the strong sun in the countryside making a dent in the willingness to give the maximum for the goal set, “the days can exceed 10 or 12 hours of uninterrupted work. It is a lot of work, but people know the importance of the work, because it will improve the standard of living of the people, and it is a source of electricity and employment”, said Osmar García Espinosa, Sany crane operator of Empresa de Construcción y Montaje Las Tunas (ConAlza in Spanish).
García Espinosa praised the managers' performance, “they are always there, on-site, attentive to their subordinates, checking, guiding, supporting... and in this way they commit us more”.
Workers from ConAlza, the main construction company, the Electric, Copextel, CubAIza, etc., walk again and again the 32 hectares designated for the park with similar impetus, and there is no sign of exhaustion on their faces. They are determined to do well and quickly do everything that depends on them.
Karel Martínez López, a worker of the Electric Power Company, said: “We started early in the morning and as long as there is light, we are in the field."
DATA AND NEWS ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Nueva Línea photovoltaic solar park project, the result of China's collaboration with Cuba in this field, is one of the major projects of Program B, of the Cuban State, and can generate and deliver 21 megawatts to the National Electric System.
It occupies a total area of 32 hectares, divided into seven plots, each of which will contribute three megawatts. Until its completion, 16,380 piles will be driven to support 1,638 tables on which 42,588 solar panels will be placed.
The number of piles driven is around 15,000. There are 1,444 tables assembled, and 16,536 photovoltaic panels are facing the sun. The perimeter fence is also progressing.
Most of the resources are in hand. The earthwork on the last plot is about to be completed. A part of the fiber optics arrived, and the remaining fiber optics are expected to arrive soon.
BEYOND NEW LINE
Earthworks have already begun in the area near the 220 KV station, close to the airport of the city of Las Tunas, and in Blanca Rosa (Majibacoa) they are preparing the temporary facilities because both sites will be used for the installation of photovoltaic solar parks, published on his Facebook wall the electrical engineer Rocio Pupo, deputy assistant director of Empresa Eléctrica Las Tunas.
