With the priority of strengthening strategies for preventing adolescent pregnancy and projecting this multisectoral approach by coordinating the roles of each institution, the first exchanges of the project "Care and Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy and Fertility in Cuba 2026-2028" were held in Jobabo.
Jobabo, Las Tunas. – During the sessions, national and local coordinators refined the implementation mechanisms of a program that, for the first time here, systematically integrates the approaches of health, education, justice, and community participation.
The workshops with specialists focused on the multifactorial and multisectoral approach to the phenomenon, recognizing that adolescent fertility is not a problem exclusive to the health sector.
Discussions focused on institutional and community coordination, gender and prevention, stereotypes and unequal relations —elements that influence sexual and reproductive decision-making— as well as the role of the public prosecutor's office and the legal framework and the specific roles of each institution in protecting adolescents.
In parallel, an innovative space brought together local adolescents and young adults in a playful, role-playing workshop, where they became the protagonists of the analysis.
Through participatory activities, the young people expressed their interests, priorities, and aspirations, revealing that access to clear information, respect for privacy, and future planning are as important as access to contraception.
This kind of exercise allows coordinators to capture, in real time, the perceptions and myths that persist among adolescents, highlighting the gap between institutional discourse and the population's actual needs.
The project lays the foundation for a comprehensive intervention that not only seeks to reduce fertility rates, but also to transform the social and family environment surrounding adolescents and young people in Jobabo, and to define their future.
