Twelve chess players of each gender will compete in a single round-robin format.

The Pepito Tey University campus, in Las Tunas City, will host the Eastern Zone Chess Tournament, a first-category event, from this Friday until December 18. The contest will award spots for the National Championships to be held in February in Camagüey.

Las Tunas, Cuba.– Masters and chess enthusiasts will gather for this tournament. Twelve chess players of each gender will compete in a single round-robin format.

IM Humberto Pecorelli, residing in the provincial capital, confirmed the details. "The top two finishers in each gender will qualify."

The Las Tunas delegation includes six players. In the men's division, the competitors will be National Masters (NM) Adalberto Smith Escalona and Ibrain Fernández Aguilera, and FIDE Masters (FM) Mario Diéguez Álvarez and Alfredo Aguilera Rodríguez, a national finalist. National Masters (WMN) Leydi Laura Parra Hidalgo and Roxannys López will represent the local women players.
