Las Tunas Hotel

The Hotel Las Tunas was officially declared a "Drug-Free Center, in the context of the health initiatives promoted in the province. This recognition validates more than a decade of preventative work at the tourist facility.

Las Tunas, Cuba.– José Enrique Naranjo Borrego, head of defense, security, and protection, explained to 26 the significance of this distinction. "Its importance is broad, as it allows us to demonstrate the result of so many years of work in the fight against drugs."

Naranjo recalled that the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) has Resolution 231, which establishes a zero-tolerance policy not only for drug use but also for related activities such as prostitution, pimping, and human trafficking. In that regard, he explained that tourist facilities, because of their clientele, can be fertile ground for this behavior.

Las Tunas HotelOne of the fundamental pillars for achieving this status has been the training system implemented for employees. Naranjo Borrego explained that the Hotel has designed a program for all areas that have direct guest contact.

"The employees are thoroughly familiar with Resolution 231. They receive regular training so they can identify and determine when a guest is using or is likely to use drugs, and thus trigger the appropriate response."

Among its educational initiatives, Las Tunas Hotel uses an internal channel to broadcast videos on drug identification. "We are informing employees about how drugs can be brought into our facilities, the methods of consumption, the symptoms exhibited by people who have used drugs, and the signs that can help detect the situation," he added. These training programs are complemented by the involvement of the Tourism Training School (Formatur) and periodic internal certifications for all employees.

This recognition distinguishes Las Tunas Hotel's contribution to the national strategy of zero tolerance for drugs in the tourism sector, with a 15-year track record of being free of drug-related incidents.
