CognitIA Mujer, the first digital platform for women entrepreneurs developed in Cuba, extends its impact beyond technology. The women from the Raíces de San José project —a pilot community for this initiative— visited the Carlos Font nursing home in Las Tunas to spend time with the residents and the staff who care for them, in a gesture that brought generations together and demonstrated that social innovation is also built on empathy.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dayalé Torres Diéguez, president of the Union of Computer Scientists of Cuba (UIC in Spanish) in Las Tunas and director of the Citizen Innovation Laboratory (Labic in Spanish) Red Co-Lab, explained that caring for people in vulnerable situations is a priority for the laboratory throughout the country. “We work from a perspective of inclusion,” she stated.
The director highlighted the support provided to older adults and the specialized staff who care for them at the Carlos Font facility. In this context, the female entrepreneurs from San José showed their solidarity with the event, sharing moments of resilience and empathy.
CognitIA Mujer represents a milestone for the country. It is the first digital platform designed specifically for women entrepreneurs, setting itself apart from other e-commerce platforms open to the general business community.
The tool incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to offer a user-friendly and simple interface. The main objective is to train users in basic digital skills so they can manage their businesses independently and efficiently.
In addition to economic empowerment, the platform prioritizes the prevention of gender-based violence. Torres Diéguez explained that the community finds resources to combat this issue, a distinctive feature of the project.
“We found a platform that is not only a tool for marketing their products but also offers resources for the prevention of violence,” she said.
This initiative emerged as a result of the first Labic in November of last year. The project was developed in collaboration with the Ibero-American General Secretariat and originated in Las Tunas.
Although San José is the pilot community, the initiative will be rolled out nationwide. The event at the Carlos Font nursing home reaffirmed the lab’s commitment to social transformation and support for the most vulnerable sectors.
