Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed Saturday the death of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in an official statement broadcast on state television.

Tehran.- The Iranian government immediately declared 40 days of national mourning and a seven-day suspension of official activities in response to the loss of the Islamic Revolution's supreme leadership.

According to the statement, Khamenei was killed in a joint attack carried out by the United States and Israel on Saturday morning. Officials emphasized that at the time of the strike, he was present at his office, fulfilling his official duties — directly contradicting earlier reports from Israeli-affiliated media and other regional outlets that had repeatedly claimed the Supreme Leader had been relocated to a secure, undisclosed location out of fear of assassination.

Iranian authorities stated that his death at his place of work demonstrated the falsehood of what they described as the enemy's psychological warfare campaign, and affirmed that Khamenei had remained among the people, standing firm and resolute in the face of what the statement characterized as arrogance and aggression.

In addition to the Supreme Leader's death, Iranian authorities confirmed that his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter were also killed in a separate strike on his residence the same morning. Reports further indicated that one of his daughters-in-law also died in the same attack.

Saturday's offensive was a joint U.S.-Israeli operation that struck multiple Iranian cities, including the capital, Tehran. The attacks came while Iran and the United States had been engaged in active nuclear negotiations, having completed three rounds of talks with additional meetings scheduled for the coming week.
