Cuba will raise the level of operations of its main international airports this year as part of the aviation development program until 2030, a source from the Ministry of Transportation (MITRANS) reported.

Havana, Cuba.- The investment process foresees the expansion and remodeling of terminal 3 of Cuba’s major aerodrome, the José Martí International Airport in Havana, which will increase its capacity for the arrivals of passengers by 30 percent, the president of the Cuban Aviation Corporation (CACSA), Joel Archer, said on Monday.

In this same airport, the capacity of transit terminal number 2 will be expanded to ensure coverage for passengers and airlines in light of a sudden increase in operations, the director noted on Facebook.

Archer also mentioned rehabilitating airports in central Cuba, Jardines del Rey, and Cayo Largo del Sur, which guaranteed the start of the tourist season and the International Tourism Fair 2024.

The Cayo Largo del Sur airport was practically new, the president of the Cuban Aviation Corporation emphasized.

He added that last year, the air terminal in Varadero (west) was repaired, and at present, they are working on the eastern airports in Camagüey and Holguín, the latter to improve the air conditioning of its premises.

The CAC president assured that they are also evaluating projects to advance in 2025 in the repair of the Santiago de Cuba airport. Likewise, the landing strips of nearly all the aforementioned terminals, including the national one on Isla de la Juventud (southwest) are being improved to further raise the safety conditions for their operations.

The investment program in Cuban airports is moving forward as planned, although the US blockade against limits the supply of fuel and other resources, Archer said. (PL)
