In the rural landscape of El Cornito, the children's voices of the Cantos de Colibrí space garnered applause at the Cucalambeana Fiesta. The performance of "La Calabaza," for example, enlivened the audience, proud of the young faces who so gallantly defend the most authentic guajiro repertoire.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- As every year, the talent trained in the improvisational and folk songs workshops usually colors the Canturía Colorín activity. This Saturday, the performance featured children from the municipalities of Jesús Menéndez, Manatí, and Las Tunas. The Colombia School of Trova, which came to this festival for the first time, also warmed hearts there.
The Raíces de San José community sociocultural project, for its part, showcased the skills of its music-dance group, especially dances that illustrate the richness of Las Tunas' heritage. Thus, between the girls' long skirts and the guayaberas worn on their young bodies, a glimpse of rural culture is expressed, the essence of a tradition cultivated in children's songs and jealously guarded.
Carmen Ramírez, the project's manager, assures that along with the artistic expressions, the history of the Cuban countryside and the love of the land are taught. Furthermore, "the hymns are a reminder of the strength of the peasantry and the values that make us unique and special. Our children are a testament to what El Cucalambé left as a legacy; that will always live on."
