Geordanis Romaguera, from the province of Matanzas, emerged as the winner of this year’s edition of the Justo Vega National Repentismo Contest. The results were announced on Sunday at “El Cornito,” as part of the Jornada Cucalambeana (Cucalambeana Fiesta).

Brayan Alejandro Iglesias, from Mayabeque, won the Popularity Prize. Also noteworthy this time was the participation of a young woman, Yudianny Barrera Mujica, from Ciego de Ávila, who made it to the elimination rounds. She and other contenders received collateral prizes.

The jury, composed of Juan Carlos García Guridi, Luis Mariano Estrada (Lewis), and Nelson Lima Chaviano, all well-versed in the national stanza, evaluated the contenders after rounds that included forced feet and other challenges.

Hosts Tahily Berrey and Magdiel Mola led the activity, which was peppered with Cuban humor. In addition, verses by great poets such as Angelito Valiente, Jesús Orta Ruiz (Indio Naborí), Tomasita Quiala, and Renael González encouraged the rhapsodists to generate creative works.
