As part of the activities of the first Science and Innovation Fair organized by the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA in Spanish) in Las Tunas, the Electric Company presented its main investment projects in renewable energies, intending to promote change in Cuba's energy matrix.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The director of the company's Comprehensive Customer Service Center, Juan Carlos Hernández González, explained that the institution already has six photovoltaic solar parks (PSF, in Spanish) installed, which contribute more than 37 megawatts (MW) to the National Electric Energy System (SEN in Spanish). He also announced plans to install 10 additional PSFs with a capacity of more than 90 MW, in coordination with construction agencies and under a structured schedule.
“We are pioneers in this activity, a fundamental pillar for the country's energy transformation. Wind energy projects also stand out, including the Herradura 1 and 2 wind farms, located in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, which will contribute 22 MW. Added to these are initiatives in Puerto Padre and Manatí, totaling more than 300 MW of clean energy once the investment process is complete.”
The Fair, organized by CITMA in collaboration with local agencies, intended to showcase government management based on science and innovation. This was reported to our media outlet by Gisela Olano Felipe, coordinator of Programs and Objectives at the Provincial Government. The event showcases results achieved through 2025 through territorial and national programs and international financing, along with local development projects.
"Here we seek to showcase digital transformation and citizen participation. It is an opportunity for the population to come together, propose ideas, and contribute solutions.
“We also have the active participation of young people and students, as part of a vocational training program that involves scientific societies and different levels of education,” said Olano Felipe.

On the other hand, the Oportuna community of entrepreneurs was present to support local entrepreneurship. Among the exhibitors were businesses such as Baicart, the Rosabella gift shop, EstiloBri, Piñatas Refinadas, and artisans specializing in hair accessories.
Madelaine Rivero Rivero, representative of the entrepreneurial community, highlighted the importance of these spaces for showcasing and marketing Tunas' creations.
This first Science and Innovation Fair has established itself as a comprehensive platform where the promotion of renewable energy, technological innovation, and local entrepreneurship converge, reflecting the pillars of the province's government management.
