Raw material recovery in the beaches

The industrial sector in the province has faced numerous challenges throughout 2025. However, the creativity and perseverance of Las Tunas workers have yielded some positive results in areas such as raw material recovery.

Las Tunas, Cuba.– “To date, a total of 1,805 tons of recyclable solid waste have been recovered in 2025. Of this, 40 percent comes from state contributions and other sources, such as student and mass organizations,” explains Aliesky de la Rosa Ayala, Director of Production and Recycling at the Las Tunas Raw Materials Recovery Company (ERMP by its acronym in Spanish).

Aliesky de la Rosa Ayala, Director of Production and Recycling.“While we can say that there are still many untapped opportunities to increase these levels, we have made modest progress in this area.”

The company exceeded its targets in terms of both value and exports. “The Industrial Processing and Sales Basic Business Unit (UEB in Spanish) contributed 95 percent of sales. To date, our company has delivered USD 1,161,769 to the country's economy, of which 70 percent goes to the State budget for public and social works,” the executive stated.

The municipalities with the best production results this year were Jesús Menéndez and Colombia, both with recycling rates above the provincial average.

Las Tunas' total sales plan is currently at 93 percent. The goal is to reach full sales before the end of the year, in celebration of the Triumph of the Revolution.

This company has the honor of holding the October 8th Award, a seal of quality and innovation. “For our team, it has been encouraging to receive this award for the second year in a row. This accolade commits our members to continue seeking creative strategies to solve problems, no matter how difficult they may seem, since we have machinery and transportation technology that, due to their age, require the ingenuity of innovators. They are the heart of our company.”

Recycling is directly linked to the island's priorities, such as housing programs, packaging, local production of construction materials, and, in some way, across the board, to the rest of the country's fundamental activities, hence its importance at this time.
