As part of the celebration of Cuban Press Day, the Rossano Zamora Paadín Provincial Journalism Award for Lifetime Achievement and the Ricardo Varela Rojas Award for Work of the Year were presented in Las Tunas; the latter in several categories.

Rafael Aparicio Coello.Las Tunas, Cuba.– Rafael Aparicio Coello, with 25 years dedicated to journalism at Radio Maboas, in “Amancio,” was awarded the Rossano Zamora Paadín Prize. A graduate in Education, Aparicio has brought to the world of reporting the values he learned in academia. With specialized knowledge in History and Social Sciences, and the humility of a man committed to society, he overcomes every obstacle in the daily practice of writing and researching.

The winners of the Award for Work of the Year were also announced at the headquarters of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC). The jury recognized Yuset Puig Pupo, from Periódico 26, in Print Media; Yamileydis Montoya Pupo, Radio Victoria, in Radio; and Gianny López Brito, TunasVisión, in Television. The award for Hypermedia went to Yaidel Miguel Rodríguez Castro, from Radio Cabaniguán, while Reynaldo Emilio López Peña, also from 26, won in Graphic.
