President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated today that Brazil has regained international respect and admiration in 2025, highlighting the milestone of nine million foreign tourists and the success of COP30.
In his Christmas message, Lula emphasized that the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) consolidated the country’s role as a global leader in the environmental agenda, underlining the importance of sustainable policies and international cooperation to confront climate change.
He also recalled the recent confrontation with the United States over increased tariffs on Brazilian products, noting that the government acted through dialogue to protect businesses and jobs, successfully opening over 500 new markets.
Lula stressed that this strategy not only defended the national economy but also strengthened the South American giant’s position in global trade amid international tensions.
On labor matters, the president addressed the discussion on working hours and advocated for the elimination of the 6×1 schedule (six consecutive workdays followed by one day off) without salary reduction, stating that “it is not fair for a person to work six consecutive days with only one day of rest.”
“This is a popular demand that must become reality,” he affirmed, reinforcing the importance of protecting workers’ rights and the balance between productivity and well-being.
The head of state highlighted that these initiatives reflect a governance model based on dialogue, responsibility, and the pursuit of consensus that benefits the majority of the population.
Regarding tourism, Lula noted that the arrival of nine million international visitors not only boosts the economy but also projects Brazil’s image as an open, attractive, and safe country.
He linked foreign achievements with the promotion of local development, emphasizing that COP30 in Belém, the capital of the northern state of Pará, helped spotlight the Amazon and strengthen cooperation with other countries in environmental conservation.
He underscored that economic and trade advances are the result of sustained policies and the state’s commitment to protecting jobs, opening markets, and strengthening strategic sectors.
The president insisted that Brazil continues on a path of responsible leadership and active participation in shaping international norms and agreements impacting trade, climate, and sustainable development.
President Lula also conveyed a message of unity and belonging to citizens, affirming that the country belongs to all and that achievements are the fruit of collective effort.
“Brazil belongs to you,” he expressed, wishing all Brazilian families a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with peace, prosperity, and new accomplishments. (CubaSí)
