Trump has promised that the nation's public debt would also be solved by the tariffs.

President Donald Trump asserted that the tariffs he imposed provide "great wealth" and national security for the United States.

The declaration comes as the latest available data from the Treasury Department, as of December 23, shows the total volume of the country's public debt exceeding 38.3 trillion dollars. According to unofficial estimates, it has surpassed 38.5 trillion dollars.

"The Tariffs are bringing in great wealth and, for the first time, National Security for the U.S.A. The Trade Deficit is down 60%, something totally unheard of. A 4.3% GDP, and going up big. No Inflation!!! We are being respected as a country again," the president stated on his Truth Social platform.

Trump has previously argued that a trade imbalance existed between the United States and its foreign partners, which he has eliminated through the imposition of additional tariffs.

The U.S. Supreme Court is currently considering whether the president has sufficient authority to make such decisions while bypassing Congress; should the court rule otherwise, the White House would have to return the collected funds to importers.

The nation's public debt is increasing by approximately 75 thousand dollars per second, according to official estimates from the Congressional Budget Office.

Debt service consumes one trillion dollars annually. The need for borrowing generates a budget deficit, meaning an excess of expenditures over revenues. Trump has promised that this problem would also be solved by the tariffs. (CubaSí)
