Weekends' agricultural fairs were suspended

Due to the danger posed to the population by the presence in the country of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, several measures were adopted in the province of Las Tunas to reorganize the sale of agricultural products; and the first of them was to suspend the fairs that took place on the Saturdays in the municipalities and Sundays in this city.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- From now on, the products will continue to be marketed both in the small squares and in the state agricultural markets (MAE); and in these facilities there will be more control and greater security measures for the prevention of the new coronavirus, as reported the delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture in the territory, Omar Yoel Pérez López.

He specified that in this city the sales management of the different companies will be maintained and that only the places of commercialization change, since several small squares and markets were selected in which the shipments from the municipalities of “Jesús Menéndez,” Puerto Padre, Jobabo, Majibacoa and Manatí will be concentrated, besides what is handled by the Collection Company.

Pérez López said that these establishments are Leningrad, El Mambí, El Tunero, Los Almendros, and MAE 13, 16 and 25; in addition to several small squares, including that of Becerra; he added that the rest of the units will be linked to the productive forms of the main municipality and especially with those who fulfill their delivery plans.

He pointed out that the Urban Agriculture program will maintain 17 sales points and that Frutas Selectas will have participation one day a week, while the Poultry Company will sell eggs and meat twice in the same period.

To meet the demand for food, peasants and state workers in the agricultural sector have a great challenge, which will require more organization and effectiveness in the harvest, transportation and sale of these products.

It is up to the population to buy only what is necessary, to queue with discipline and to show respect to pregnant women, mothers with small children, people with disabilities and the elderly.
