An effective way to prevent dengue is to control the populations of mosquitoes

Humankind is celebrating the World Dengue Day on Saturday.

Havana, Cuba.- The World Health Organization’s website informed that there are four varieties of dengue, being the hemorrhagic variant the most severe, and a person is likely to get the disease four times, each time from a different strain of the virus, which causes the viral disease, which is transmitted by the bite of infected mosquitoes that can affect people of any age and is very common in tropical and subtropical regions.

Dengue causes flu-like symptoms, such as fever, muscle aches, and headaches, chills, nausea, and vomiting, and can sometimes evolve to a life-threatening condition known as severe or hemorrhagic dengue.

It is a widespread infection in tropical regions of the world, and cases have been growing in urban areas lately, becoming a serious public health predicament.

Over half of the world’s population is at risk of contracting the disease, and every year there are more than 390 million cases worldwide, 500,000 of which are severe dengue, which causes some 25,000 deaths.

An effective way to prevent it is to control the populations of mosquitoes, mainly the Aedes aegypti, the disease’s transmitters. (PL)
