Many entities and agencies still discharge waste into the environment.

More than 20 entities have dumping permits in Las Tunas, which means some progress toward the goal to reduce the contamination of natural resources such as water and soil and, therefore, less damage to the lives of people, animals, and plants.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- These organisms comply with Cuban regulations and reduced their harmful loads, or do not pollute the environment; although the figure is still short, said the Master of Science Cándido Alberto Medina Segura, head of the Department of Environmental Policy Instrument in the Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment (CITMA).

He highlighted among the best examples the Stainless Steel (ACINOX Las Tunas) and Dairy Products companies, plus some swine establishments that have significantly reduced the release of waste.

The Latex Articles Factory, belonging to the Thaba Las Tunas base business unit (UEB), and the Youth Recreation Center at 26 de Julio Park also stand out in this group that with few resources and more creativity applied effective solutions to reduce noise pollution.

On the other hand, the Meat and Aqueduct and Sewerage companies of the municipality of Puerto Padre are two of the main pernicious sources identified in this eastern province, whose residues end up in the coastal zone, damaging mangroves and other values of the bay ecosystem.

Medina Segura explained that some industries do not meet environmental requirements, among other reasons, due to the degree of obsolescence of their technologies. He assured that the new investments do not allow the creation of pollution foci, since they are very rigorous so that the provisions of environmental protection are complied with.

The aim is to achieve the environmentally responsible management of chemicals and all wastes and reduce their release into the atmosphere, water, and soil to minimize their adverse effects on human health and nature, he stressed.

Contamination is the introduction of substances or other physical elements into a medium, causing it to be unsafe or unfit for use. It always causes a negative reaction and is usually caused by human activity.
