May Day parade is held today

Before dawn, the city has lived a hotbed of flags, movement, and merriment that stand out in different faces. We return to the Major General Vicente García González Revolution Plaza today, as every year, in support of the Homeland, with the spirit of the new generations and the expectations of the present. It does not matter that the almanac marks another date and not precisely May 1st.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Odalis Batista Pérez, secretary-general of the Cuban Workers Federation (CTC) in Las Tunas, assured 26 that "we made the conception of the celebration of the proletariat in correspondence with the historical moment we are living in," she emphasized. With satisfaction, we announce the realization of 28 acts in squares, communities, and population settlements in each municipality.”

Based on the real possibilities of the territories to guarantee the transportation of the workers and their families, seven parades take place at the municipal level and, in the city of Las Tunas, with a provincial scope. In every corner of the province, celebrations are being held, as is customary.

“In the capital municipality, we have planned, at the same time, in the Bartle area, an independent festivity since that community usually organizes its tribute to the working class. In different settlements, in unison with the central activities, there will be others, such as parades or brief acts dedicated to honoring the date.

"At the end of all the parades, there will be commercial, cultural, and recreational proposals to celebrate such a high commemoration as it should."

In Las Tunas, the parade is organized into 15 blocks, one for each Union, and at the forefront will be that of the civil defense workers, for the comprehensive results they have, taking into account the challenges they have been immersed in the post-pandemic stage, and the effort and the results of their work in supporting the economy and the business side.

This year, a giant group of young people will close the parade as representatives of continuity. A singular fact is that, together with the union of agricultural, tobacco, and forestry workers, some five thousand peasants will parade, who deserving of the headquarters of the national celebration for May 17. Likewise, the celebration will be distinguished by another ”Jump for Fidel,” with the Skydiving Club.

The long line, adorned with flags and posters, is a way to demonstrate to the world the position of the proletarian class in Cuba, and specifically in Las Tunas, to continue building our social project and a more prosperous and sustainable society.
