Federation of Cuban Women celebrates its 63rd anniversary in Las Tunas

The evocation of women who have marked the history of Las Tunas, such as the Mambisa Brígida Zaldívar, the Rufina, who inspired the Cucalambé tenths, and the patriot and poetess Tomasa Varona, marked today Cuba’s main celebration for the 63rd anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).

Las Tunas, Cuba.- From the Major General Vicente García González Revolution Plaza, in this city, a representation of women from all sectors staged the act, as the culmination of the activities that for several days commemorated the new anniversary of the organization of women.

Décimas, poems with a deep sense of patriotism, and even the green-red strength of the Leñadores baseball team, champions of the 62nd Cuban National Series, nuanced the recognition of the decisive contribution of women to the socio-economic development of the country, among them the FMC representatives from Santiago de Cuba and Villa Clara, outstanding provinces.

The names of Mariana Grajales, Celia Sánchez, and Vilma Espín resounded among the slogans; as well as the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, when he expressed that "woman will live alongside man as a companion, and not at his feet like a beautiful toy.”

Teresa Amarelle Boué, a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary-General of the FMC, gave an emotional speech in which she emphasized the need to continue working to eliminate inequalities and manifestations of gender violence.

The contribution of Cuban women in the priority sectors for the development of the country, such as agriculture, health, science and technological innovation, defense of the nation, and others, transcended, in the words of Amarelle Boué; the affirmation that the feminine strength is “a revolution within the Revolution.”

The achievements, but also the battles that must be won, marked the words of the leader of the organization, with emphasis on the meticulous work that is needed to enforce the rights approved in the new Family Code, the Program for the Advancement of Women, and the progress from the judicial point of view to address health and social problems resulting from gender violence.

From all the municipalities of Las Tunas came peasant women, soldiers, doctors, educators, and others to celebrate the National Vanguard Condition in the materialization of actions and projects that contribute to the empowerment and social justice of Cuban women.

The 15th Salto por Fidel (Leap for Fidel), a parachute exhibition that this occasion included four women among its protagonists, enthusiastically closed the celebration of the 63rd anniversary of the FMC, flying through the sky with giant photographs of the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro, and the flag of the organization.
