Human actions such as the unauthorized burning of grass or sugarcane, the use of vehicles without spark arresters, and other activities; as well as the intense drought in recent months, and the increase in temperatures, have favored the occurrence of numerous fires throughout Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- March and April are the most dangerous months for fires since they coincide with the driest period. Different organizations and institutions warn that extremely dangerous conditions still prevail in certain areas of the country and low moisture reserves in the soil.

Preventive measures must be reinforced and constant vigilance maintained to avoid damage to biodiversity, local populations, and the environment.
