Las Tunas .- Shortly after starting its machinery, the Amancio Rodríguez sugar mill had to close down due to leaks in its boilers, which added five days to the late start of milling.
This situation compromises the goal of producing 35,000 tons, which would mean more than 12 thousand more compared to last year, when the "Amancio Rodriguez" was included among the most critical of the country.
To process the cane within 90 days, as planned, the factory is required to comply with the program to harness 80 percent of the potential, otherwise the campaign may be extended until April.
The remaining mills activated in the central province, the "Antonio Guiteras" and Majibacoa, also faced problems with the implementation in the first ten days of this month, with breakdowns and operational disruptions.
The first, the largest producer of sugar in the island, began to mill 10 days after that provided in the schedule, to which is added the excess of rain which limited the processing of crude, and now there is evidence of a recovery in the industrial machinery, the cane supply is insufficient.
Majibacoa, which began to grind on time, on its first day suffered a broken lift motor, which was replaced, and despite the factory working steadily, to date has failed to meet the production plan.
The Sugar Company of Las Tunas processing 171,000 tons planned for this harvest, which would mean 40,000 more than in the previous harvest, depends on a quick fix to the problems presented in this initial stage. (acn)
