"That the province of Las Tunas had more than 91 percent of its population with the complete vaccination scheme against COVID-19 at the end of 2021 has been the result of the effort, in the first place, of Cuban scientists, health personnel, and also from the different sectors and organizations. We feel very proud of the dedication and love they have given to this task," Nilvia Agüero Batista said.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The head of the Committee of Experts responsible for the process said that the application of the anti-COVID-19 booster dose is a priority of the Cuban State that materializes in the province. The benefit is already received in the capital city by patients admitted to nursing homes, the Psychiatric Hospital, and the Psycho Pedagogical Center, as well as residents.
After a pause between December 31, 2021, and January 3, 2022, the activity resumes in the capital territory. In the remaining municipalities, the administration will start with the patients of the Puerto Padre Psychopedagogical Center and the homes for the elderly, she said.
More than 15,962 health workers were immunized with the booster doses, being the first group to be vaccinated as of May 10, 2021, she explained. "The indication was to apply it six months after the administration of the complete cycle, but now it will be done after three months."
At the end of the year, more than 3,940 adolescents from the first group were counted with the completed scheme (students in 12th grade, the third year of Technical and Vocational Education, and the third and fourth years of pedagogical training); more than 34,800 in the second group (from 11 to 18 years old); and 44,960 in the third (from 2 to 10 years old).
“Soberana Plus” is currently being applied to all convalescent patients with a positive PCR, both children, and adults. "As of the age of two, we have already vaccinated more than 4,000 infants. In the case of adults with confirmed PCR, more than 25,640 have been immunized."
Finally, Agüero Batista said that the first dose has favored more than 488,580 patients, which represents 97.7 percent of the population; with the second dose 447, 370, for 89.70 percent. And with the complete scheme, either “Soberana 02,” “Abdala,” and “Soberana Plus,” 456,950 have been vaccinated, for 91.62 percent of the province population.
