UPEC presents Dignity Award to Universidad de OrienteThe Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) on Monday presented the Dignity Award to the Universidad de Oriente on the 75th anniversary of its foundation.

Havana, Cuba.- The president of this organization, Ricardo Ronquillo, highlighted the education of press professionals who studied in its classrooms, with a history also linked to national struggles.

UPEC grants the Dignity Award in exceptional cases to honest and upright press professionals who, through their heroic actions or an extraordinary life background in the service of journalism and the homeland, have become paradigms.

The Universidad de Oriente was founded on October 10, 1947, in a solemn act carried out in the Provincial Government of Santiago de Cuba, with the presence of La Demajagua bell and the authorities of the province.

Its academic purpose is to preserve, promote, and develop culture through the constant search for excellence in the comprehensive education of students and professors; as well as in scientific research and its application, according to international demands and national and territorial priorities.
