French solidarity and cooperation associations support the removal of Cuba from U.S. list

French solidarity and cooperation associations launched a joint petition in support of the global campaign against the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism created by the United States government.

Paris.- Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop), Cuba Linda, and France Cuba called to reach one million signatures in the initiative, which demands that Washington exclude Cuba from said list, in which it was reincorporated by President Donald Trump in January 2021, a few days before leaving the White House.

His successor, Joseph Biden, has maintained the accusation against Cuba without justifying it, despite the promises he made during his campaign to review the decision.

The French organizations recalled that Trump adopted 243 new measures to tighten the blockade of the United States against Cuba. Dozens of these measures were decreed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The designation on the list of state sponsors of terrorism made it even more difficult for Cuba to carry out transactions in the international banking system, and consequently to acquire products and goods necessary for the population on the market, including fuel, food, construction materials, and medicines, the associations said in a statement.

The global campaign against the inclusion of Cuba on the said list was launched by organizations such as the Sao Paulo Forum, the International People’s Assembly, the Trade Union Confederation of Workers of the Americas, and the Movements towards ALBA, among others.

The French associations will take advantage of the context of the traditional political-cultural festival La Fête de l’Humanité, which will take place from September 15 to 17 in the Paris Region, to promote concrete responses against the US aggression on Cuba. (PL)
