With the opening ceremony in front of the Major General Vicente García Provincial Museum, the Day of Cuban Culture began in Las Tunas, which from October 10 to 20 include artistic and literary gatherings, book presentations, festivals, and other initiatives.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The inaugural event featured the duo Ochoa Couso, who performed very Cuban songs such as Mujer Bayamesa, by Sindo Garay, and ¡Ay, Mamá Inés!, by Eliseo Grenet. The singer-songwriter Amaury del Río performed the songs Estoy seguro (I am safe) and Cuando un hombre canta (When a man sings). Students from the El Cucalambé Professional Art School danced for those present.
Darlenis Urquiola, provincial director of Culture, said that the celebration is dedicated to the centenary of the presence of the Estern Organ in Las Tunas, and the 50th birthday of the El Cucalambé literary workshop. In addition, the Las Tunas chapter adds to the motivations at the national level, such as the 155th anniversary of the beginning of the War of Independence by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, the 220th anniversary of the birth of the poet José María Heredia, and the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Ballet National of Cuba by the Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso.
The program highlights the performance of the Estrella de Oriente organ, founded by Joaquín Ochoa in this land in 1925; a family tradition sustained by three generations, among whom are currently his sons Carlos and Jorge Luis, along with five other musicians.
The presentation of the anthology The Promising Race at the José Martí provincial library is also included; a selection by the writer Odalys Leyva Rosabal that compiles poems by more than 300 authors, from different countries and periods, dedicated to Don Quixote.
The José Martí Brigade of Art Instructors is expected to reach the community of San José as part of the Cultural Guerrilla, which, according to Zenia Ross, Head of Programming of the Provincial Directorate of Culture, will bring together representative groups of different art expressions, with the leading role of the Amateur Artists Movement.
The official announced that they intend to reach the Luis Urquiza Jorge Vocational Pre-university Istitute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE), with talents from the Barbarito Diez Music and Entertainment Marketing Company, where they will be celebrating the winning students in recent knowledge competitions. She also announced the Identity and Image event, which will be hosted by the Provincial Museum, and will delve into cultural decolonization and other important topics.
Regular activities such as Book on Thursday and the Peña Prodigiosa are added with special invitations. In the latter case, the meeting on the 13th, at night, will be dedicated to the guayabera, Cuba's national garment.
On October 20, Day of the Cuban Culture, a tribute gala is scheduled, followed by the Peña Campesina, which will host the Patio de Pepe, on the side of the José Martí Plaza.
