The 38th Giovanni Ardizzone Volunteer Work Brigade, from Italy, arrived with new donations to the Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching Hospital.

The Giovanni Ardizzone volunteer work brigade arrived with new donations to the Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching HospitalLas Tunas, Cuba.- Means of protection for medical and nursing personnel and assistance supplies will benefit Public Health procedures in Las Tunas, in a center with more than 700 capacities for admission and thirty specialized services.

The members of the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (ANAIC) were interested in the wards for Cardiology care. In Las Tunas, as in some Italian regions, heart disease is the leading cause of death.
In this province, about 500 patients with acute coronary events are treated annually.

“We bring many Cardiology products such as sphygmos and sanitary items. Health problems related to the heart are a concern in many parts of the world and Italy, we suffer from this type of illness above other diseases”, pointed out Franco Tonon, secretary of the Lodi Circle.

"For me, it is very important to be in the first person in these donations, in particular, for the benefit of health in Cuba," Davide Maisano said, a member of the brigade, who is arriving in Las Tunas for the first time.

Equipment will support the diagnosis and rehabilitation of people suffering from heart conditions, including an ultrasound machine, a mat, and a bicycle for examinations.

Dr. Maikel Santos Medina recognizes this. “In recent months, we have received donations from the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association, among which are several types of equipment aimed at caring for cardiovascular patients. In the coming weeks, many of them should already come into operation. We appreciate the help and solidarity of Italian friends towards the Cuban people and, especially, Las Tunas.”

Collaboration and twinning strategies between both nations announce new deliveries in the coming months, which will support hospital care.
