3rd Julio García Luis National Press Festival

The 26 Newspaper was one of the five Cuban public media winners of the Juan Antonio Borrego Innovation Award 2022, during the Third National Press Festival, which was held virtually, between December 14 to the 16th.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- A communication strategy of 26 for crisis scenarios was the proposal of the Las Tunas representation to the Julio García Luis Festival, focused on the search for a new model of the public press.

26 presents its project  to the National Press FestivalTo grant the prize, the jury recognized the integrity of the project, the theoretical conception, and the results of the provincial newspaper, endorsed by the confidence of the public in its informative capacities; besides providing advice to other institutions in the territory and local governments on strategic communication to manage crises.

The objective of 26 was to "characterize, from a historical perspective, the exercise of journalism in Las Tunas during the coverage of exceptional situations and propose a communication strategy that covers all the platforms of the Newspaper, which allows us to convert the news potential of these events, not into an end, but rather a mean to fulfill its social responsibility."

Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, stressed that this Festival is part of the steps of the experiment to transform the press from the editorial, economic, and technological points of view. And he highlighted that some of the award-winning media are part of this advanced process.

He also called for systematizing results in the daily life of the newsrooms and the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), under its leadership, to continue promoting these actions.

Cubadebate, the Girón Newspaper, from Matanzas, and the channels Cubavisión Internacional and Solvisión, from Guantánamo, also won the Juan Antonio Borrego 2022 Innovation Award.
