26 on its 42nd anniversary

"Have you seen the postman? He hasn’t thrown out the newspaper today," says my neighbor, looking around the corners of the balcony.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- After 42 years of being the printed newspaper of this province, 26 does not lose its impact or stop accompanying its readers.

These last 12 months have closed one more cycle of hectic informational events. The day of Santa Ana, the memories of more than four decades move the hearts of its founders and a union that still maintains among its workers reporters who conceived what seemed impossible in 1978: to circulate around the lands of Major General Vicente García González a newspaper with fresh, mobilizing news, and a mirror of the essences of its people.

A lot of effort, improvement, sleeplessness, page readings, corrections, photographic techniques, design and style mark its traces over time. Where the vital thing is always to grow before the challenges, like this one of today, that exalts the new anniversary: to give coverage, without counting hours, place or risks, to the battle against the COVID-19; keep the digital and printed editions in the middle of social isolation for more than two months and bring to Las Tunas inhabitants the precise information on the incidence of a pandemic that shakes the world.

Forty-two years of multiplying awards, collective and individual; enjoy the advances and preferences gained by its website (www.periodico26.cu); being a teaching center for the students of the Journalism and Social Communication majors, and putting into practice a new management model adds up to victories, among the constant creative dream of linking the editorial line with the public agenda, as a renewed goal in itself.

Decades and more joining ranks in this national effort to revalidate professional practice and deliver more authentic communication packages tailored to what the people demand. Hence the permanent improvement of the work team, the profitable exploitation of the use of technologies, and the assumption of research and scientific methods to carry out the topics and the consequent diversification of content.

26 reaches its 42nd anniversary. A sort of accomplished emblems but, above all, a nonconforming path because, right there, is the crucible of this publishing house and the wise mania to take advantage of its strengths, demonstrated in the journalism of its website, the use of photography and infographics and positioning in social media with immediacy and visual appeal.

In short, another year of work, challenges and close prospects such as going out to debut colors on a Friday; this day in which 26 shakes with its paper body and its magical letters the greatest aspiration: to take to its pages the life of Las Tunas and its people.
