Las Tunas, Cuba.- The book of poems entitled "As a desert country", written by Frank Castell, a writer from Puerto Padre (Las Tunas, Cuba, 1976), won the Pastora Marcela International Prize, from Spain, which includes the publication of the book.

He graduated from the second course of the Onelio Jorge Cardoso literary training center in 2000. Castell says that literature for him is "the essence of my life, I give color to the impossible with it, I survive, I try to get out of the ordinary and leave an essence on society and on time."

His verses go deep into the reader to address tears of existence and be a reflection of everyday life from varied edges in terms of form and content.

This member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, well known as Uneac by its Spanish acronyms, and a graduate in Spanish and Literature also collaborates with important Cuban magazines and has published in different websites of Cuba and abroad.

He currently works as a scriptwriter and director of Television programs at the Canal Azul local TV channel, in the municipality of Puerto Padre. He is the host of the cultural programs for reflection and debate Word of Angel, in the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes municipal library and Vivir del Aire, in the headquarters of the Uneac of that territory.

He has published the books: The soft noise of the shadows (Sanlope publishing house, 2000), Confessions to eternity (Sanlope, 2002), Heart of ship (Letras Cubanas publishing house, 2006), End of the Day (Sanlope, 2012), Dark Psalms (Oriente publishing house, 2013), Pieces of island (Letras Cubanas, 2015) and The lonely work of resistance (Valparaíso publishing house, Spain, 2018).
