Two renowned personalities from Las Tunas recently received the Replica of the Machete Mambí of the Generalissimo Máximo Gómez, which was delivered to a group of writers, artists, journalists, and cultural and informational institutions, who constitute true examples of Cuban intellectual work committed to their people, their work, and the Revolution.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- One is Joel Lachataignerais Popa, a journalist with more than 50 years of experience, a war correspondent in Ethiopia, whose pen and work has enhanced José Martí's thinking and other fields; and the architect Domingo Antonio Alás Rosell, author of the José Martí Plaza, the Unusual House, and other important works.

The ceremony, held in the Nicolás Guillén Hall of the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress, was chaired by the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party Central Committee (PCC), Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces; Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, a member of the Secretariat and head of the PCC Ideological Department; Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture; Abel Prieto, president of the Casa de las Américas; and Diosvany Acosta, first secretary of the National Bureau of the Young Communist League (UJC).
