Students of the Julián Santana Santana semi-boarding school, in Las Tunas

At the Julián Santana Santana semi-boarding school, everything was full of joy on Monday 4 September. The scenes at the beginning of each school year seem to be repeated year after year and, in unison, they arrive like a new breeze with the distinctive features of each class, pupil, group, educator, and family.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- There is no doubt that the beginning of this period is a celebration, as the students of the educational institution that hosted the provincial ceremony for the new academic year let us know.

Brenda Cobas Peña, a second-grade student, arrived at her school full of expectations, although she already missed the holiday period. Along with her, her mother Yairelis Cobas Peñas, a teacher at the same educational institution, with 17 years of experience.

"A new opportunity to teach, educate, and prepare for the future," she said, surrounded by children waiting for the celebration ceremony.

For Nilser Piñeda Cruz, Provincial Director of Education, the start of the 2023-2024 school year is a victory and a time of challenges and achievements in which more than 300 new teachers, and graduates of teacher training centers, will leave their mark.

Happy return to the classroom; may every school be a temple of knowledge and spiritual growth, may every teacher be a guide, and every pupil be an eager disciple on the road to knowing the world. Welcome to the time of learning.
