Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias praised the effort made by teachers, students and workers of the territory

The Education, Higher Education and Sports sectors in this province work in the maintenance and care of all educational institutions with a view to resuming the school year when the epidemiological situation allows it, as it was confirmed by Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias, a member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In a meeting to check the strategy for the post-COVID-19 stage of these institutions, Tapia Iglesias learned about the teaching coverage on the restart of the school period, the conditions of the classrooms in order to achieve the necessary physical distance and the availability of resources in order to preserve hygiene.

Taking into account the peculiarities of the territory, one of the driest in the country, she was interested in guaranteeing the supply of water to the facilities.

Nílser Piñeda Cruz, Provincial Director of Education, explained that the General Education has 4,254 student groups here and for 69 of them, they must still look for alternative premises to avoid overcrowding. For her part, the rector of the University of Las Tunas, Aurora Ramos de las Heras, reported that in the absence of other premises, they plan to divide the brigades whose enrollment exceeds the permitted figures, which means that some teachers' schedules will be overloaded.

Regarding the student residences, Ramos de las Heras specified that the one on the Lenin campus, which functioned as an isolation center, will be subject to deep disinfection and reorganization when it is delivered by the Health Directorate. A total of 17 Las Tunas schools were used for this purpose, which will be properly sanitized following strict protocols.

The member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba evaluated as very suitable the manner in which this year, in an exceptional way, the University will carry out the exercises of completion of studies. In addition, she considered appropriate to advance as much as possible of said process, without violating sanitary measures, with the aim of satisfying the labor demand of the prioritized sectors in the shortest possible time.

Alexis Pérez, provincial director of the Sports, commented that the athletes' training centers get ready for the start of the activities and the spaces of the schools are accommodated according to the 25 new premises that they will require. Regarding the National Baseball Series, he said that the material accommodation conditions are already being created and the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium has undergone maintenance actions.

At the meeting, Gisela Olano Felipe, the territorial Delegate of Science, Technology and Environment referred to the contributions of science during the pandemic. She highlighted the impact of local research and projects on food production, as well as the valuable information offered by the Social Sciences Council based on studies carried out in rural communities.

Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias pondered the effort made by teachers, students and workers of the territory during such a complex period. She urged that each agency contribute specifically to the national strategy; she emphasized that we will return to new normality and that teamwork and collective construction must be maintained.

Manuel Pérez Gallego, president of the Provincial Defense Council, confirmed to the political leader that the people of Las Tunas will continue to comply with all hygienic-sanitary measures. Likewise, he asserted that the educational sector has not stopped at any time and they will work tirelessly with the purpose of successfully completing the current school year.
