Plenary Session of the Las Tunas' PCC Provincial Committee

The work of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the fulfillment of the investment process, the development strategy, and the housing construction program were among the topics analyzed at the 4th Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the organization in Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- In the meeting, it was explained that the territory has a broad investment plan that is limited by the lack of cement, steel, hydraulic installations, electric cables, and other materials, besides the non-utilization of the natural resources available in the different municipalities.

As priorities, the oxygen plants of the Ernesto Guevara and Guillermo Domínguez hospitals, the corpse incinerator, the La Herradura 1 wind farm, the water treatment plant in the municipality of “Jesús Menéndez,” and the southern ring road were established, although the latter requires more than 700 tons of steel and 400 tons of P-350 cement.

Other works will continue to be built in the next few days. The works of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH, by its Spanish acronym) and the agricultural sector stand out, especially the Jobabo vegetable industry, pig breeding warehouses, and others that increase the productive capacities of different sectors.

One of those present at the plenary session argued the need to prioritize investments in the diagnostic means area of the Mártires de Las Tunas Pediatric Hospital, with serious construction problems that hinder the attention to children, and noted that there are delays in the fulfillment of the agreed schedule.

There was also a discussion on housing construction, an aspect in which problems accumulated over time are recognized and are aggravated by the occurrence of meteorological phenomena; however, the management of the responsible agencies to speed up procedures and seek solutions is insufficient.

Manuel Pérez Gallego, a member of the PCC Central Committee and its first secretary in Las Tunas, indicated promoting -in each municipality- the base for the production of construction materials and speeding up the adaptation of state premises for their delivery to families.

Likewise, he oriented to promote the program in rural areas, with typology 4 houses, for which it is necessary to define what material they will be made with, where the wood will be cut, where it will be sawn, the cost, and other important details.

Regarding the role of the political organization in the control of sugarcane recovery and preparation for the close sugar harvest, several of those present agreed that an essential task is to take care of the human resources involved in each process.

In this sense, examples were given, based on the visit of some members of this body to productive forms, sugar mills, workshops, and derivative factories, in which negative and positive aspects were appreciated, concerning salary, food, and the search for solutions.

Two prominent heads of sugarcane units from the municipalities of "Amancio" and Puerto Padre exchanged with the members of the Committee and narrated their experiences in recovering almost lost areas, diversifying production, and providing a differentiated service to the workers.

After the criteria of the delegates from the different sugar companies and other entities related to the dispute, Pérez Gallego called for the implementation of the 93 measures to save the sector and to increase the yields of the sugarcane areas.

He added that it is necessary to dignify the communities surrounding each productive form, to conform the livestock modules that guarantee the animal protein, and to achieve that, in the short and medium terms, the units increase the sugarcane yield per hectare.

The members of the Committee approved the plan of topics for the meetings of the near 2023 and evaluated the main economic indicators of the territory at the end of the year and after the conclusion of the 14th National Internal Control Verification.

At this point, Governor Jaime Chiang Vega reminded that, in economic management, the leading role must be played by the socialist state enterprise and said that there is a high level of training in the territory, but it is necessary to put these results into practice.

On his part, Pérez Gallego urged to continue strengthening the structures of the enterprises, to substitute imports of resources, and to incorporate more goods and services for export, through the management of the productive potentialities.

At the end of the meeting, the Bureau rendered its report to the Committee, with a balance of the work carried out during 2022 and the projections for the next calendar. Also, the First Secretary congratulated the people of Las Tunas for the end of the year and the 64th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, especially the inhabitants of Manati, who deserved to host the Provincial Act for the ephemerid.
