ACINOX Las Tunas does not give up the bet to the income that complementary productions can bring

This year, the Las Tunas Stainless-Steel Company (ACINOX) is strengthened with the production of more than 60 products, as part of the circular economy strategy in the Cuban steel industry; a projection that arises from the use of waste generated in the production processes.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- These practices, which led the entity to conclude 2022 with figures close to 65 million dollars, enhance the processing of cement from slag, and the use of hard materials for the manufacture of asphalt mixtures and blocks, which are used in ACINOX's routines.

Ramón Ávila Zambrano, Director of the Organization of Production of Goods and Services, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the leading product in this calendar is the round or machined bar of 38 millimeters (mm) in diameter by 3.80 mm in length, from a by-product of the rolling mill, which together with the other processes will allow the company to earn approximately 10 million pesos each month.

The reuse of this scrap has enabled them to maintain sustainability, comply with national orders, and the provision of health services, as well as hydraulic use through the repair of pumps for water supply and other works of socioeconomic impact.

We foresee extending to 80 objects as a short and medium-term goal, with influences in the industrial activity, which will improve the working and living conditions of our employees, but also of the society, Ávila Zambrano said.

The executive assured that they are working on the conversion of Acinox Las Tunas into a high-technology company by 2030 so that the path towards a future of science, innovation, and ecological-technological development and greater exploitation of traditional resources is irrevocable.
